A diploma or certification in HSE is often sufficient for entry-level roles.Certifications (Highly Preferred or Mandatory):NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or Diploma.IOSH Managing Safely or Working Safely.OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Safety Certification (US-focused).ISO 14001 or 45001 Lead Auditor certification for environmental/safety management.First Aid/CPR certification and fire safety training.Experience: 35+ years in HSE roles, preferably in a relevant industry. Entry-level positions may accept 12 years with strong certifications. Experience with high-risk environments (e.g., construction sites or refineries) is a plus.Essential Skills and CompetenciesTechnical Skills: In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, risk management tools (e.g., HAZOP, JSA), and software like incident reporting systems (e.g., Cority or Intelex).Soft Skills: Strong communication (verbal and written) for training and reporting; analytical thinking for root-cause analysis; attention to detail; and leadership to influence safety behaviors.Other Attributes: Ability to work under pressure, travel to sites if needed, and handle confidential information.
