reconciliation: performing account reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
compliance: ensuring adherence to accounting principles (., gaap), tax regulations, and industry standards.
2. construction-specific accounting
job costing: tracking and managing costs associated with specific projects, including labor, materials, and overhead.
budgeting & forecasting: developing and monitoring project budgets and forecasts, and analyzing variances to ensure projects remain within budget and are profitable.
revenue recognition: applying appropriate revenue recognition methods (., percentage-of-completion method) for long-term construction projects.
subcontractor management: overseeing payments, lien releases, and compliance documentation for subcontractors.
invoicing & billing: managing progress billing, invoices, and payments for construction projects.
cost analysis: conducting cost analysis and providing recommendations for cost-saving measures.
contract management: monitoring construction project contracts and managing change orders.
3. leadership and management
team supervision: delegating tasks, training, and mentoring junior accounting staff.
process improvement: optimizing financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
audit coordination: preparing documentation for external auditors and coordinating audits.
reporting to management: providing financial insights and recommendations to senior management for informed decision-making.
4. skills and qualifications
construction accounting expertise: strong understanding of construction accounting principles and practices, including job costing, revenue recognition, and retainage.
financial software proficiency: experience with accounting software like quickbooks, sap, oracle, or microsoft dynamics, and advanced excel skills.
analytical skills: strong ability to analyze financial statements and data to identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
communication and collaboration: effective communication skills to convey complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders, and to collaborate with project managers.
