role overview

the pediatrician provides comprehensive medical care for children, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, ensuring evidence-based, patient-centred care in hospital wards and outpatient services.

key responsibilities

diagnose and manage common pediatric illnesses, infections, and chronic conditions.

conduct routine check-ups, growth monitoring, and developmental assessments.

prescribe medications, therapies, and vaccination schedules as per protocols.

order and interpret pediatric lab tests and imaging studies.

monitor and manage pediatric patients in hospital wards and outpatient care.

collaborate with nurses, allied health professionals, and parents for effective child care.

provide health education to parents and caregivers regarding nutrition, hygiene, and preventive care.

maintain accurate patient records, treatment notes, and follow-ups in his/emr systems.

participate in case discussions, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

ensure adherence to hospital safety, infection control, and pediatric care protocols.

key skills & competencies

strong clinical knowledge in general pediatrics.

ability to manage pediatric patients in ward and outpatient settings.

familiarity with pediatric diagnostics, lab interpretation, and growth assessment.

effective communication with children, parents, and hospital staff.

knowledge of hospital workflows, documentation standards, and patient safety protocols.

qualification & experience

education: mbbs with md/dnb in pediatrics.

experience: 15 years in general pediatrics in hospital or clinical settings.

certifications: bls mandatory; pals desirable.
