role summary
the general manager – sales is the commercial head responsible for driving all revenue streams for
the boutique hotel and banquet operations, including rooms, f&b, weddings/events, conferences, and ancillary services. this role develops and executes a sales strategy that aligns with the brand’s
premium positioning, maximizes occupancy and average room rate (arr), and builds a sustainable base of high-value clients. the gm – sales will lead the sales team, manage key accounts, create strong market visibility, and work in close coordination with marketing, revenue management, and
operations to ensure financial and brand objectives are achieved.
key responsibilities
1. strategic revenue planning
• develop and implement annual sales & marketing strategies to achieve targeted room revenue, banquet/event bookings, and f&b sales.
• identify and prioritize target markets — luxury leisure, destination weddings, corporate off- sites, mice (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions), social celebrations, and travel trade.
• collaborate with revenue management to create seasonal pricing strategies, packages, and promotional offers.
2. business development & account management
• acquire and grow high-value accounts: travel agencies, corporate companies, dmcs, wedding planners, event management firms, and government bodies.
• develop partnerships with luxury brands, lifestyle curators, and cultural organizations to enhance brand reach.
• actively network in local and national industry events, exhibitions, and wedding expos to generate leads.
• maintain long-term relationships with repeat clients to drive loyalty and referrals.
3. banquet & event sales
• drive banquet sales for weddings, receptions, social gatherings, and corporate events.
• create customized event packages combining venue, catering, décor, and hospitality services.
• work closely with the f&b and banquet operations teams to ensure seamless event execution and post-event feedback collection.
• monitor banquet calendar and maximize date utilization, especially during high-demand seasons.
4. sales operations & team leadership
• lead, mentor, and motivate the sales and reservations team to achieve monthly/quarterly sales targets.
• allocate market segments and client portfolios among team members.
• establish standard operating procedures (sops) for lead follow-ups, proposal creation, and contract finalization.
• maintain crm system with accurate records of leads, conversion ratios, and client communications.
5. distribution & channel management
• manage ota (online travel agency) presence, ensuring rate parity, strategic promotions, and high review scores.
• increase direct bookings through website optimization, social media campaigns, and loyalty programs.
• explore and onboard new distribution channels for targeted customer segments.
6. marketing & brand positioning
• collaborate with the marketing team to develop campaigns that highlight the hotel’s boutique charm, heritage elements, and banquet facilities.
• oversee production of sales materials, presentations, and photo/video content for digital and offline use.
• support pr activities, influencer collaborations, and press events to strengthen brand image.
7. reporting & analysis
• prepare regular sales performance reports — occupancy trends, arr, revpar, banquet booking statistics, and revenue forecasts.
• monitor competitor pricing, offerings, and market movements, and adapt strategies accordingly.
• present quarterly business reviews to the management team.
8. budget & compliance
• prepare and manage the annual sales & marketing budget.
• ensure all contracts comply with company policies and local regulations.
• monitor cost of sales and roi on marketing spends.
qualifications & experience
• bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business, or marketing; mba preferred.
• 10–15 years of progressive sales experience in luxury/boutique hotels, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• proven track record in driving both room revenue and banquet/event sales.
• strong network in the wedding/event planning community, corporate segment, and travel trade.
• hands-on experience in crm tools, ota management systems, and revenue reporting.
