job summary:

we are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and proactive assistant manager - machine shop maintenance to lead and manage all maintenance activities within our state-of-the-art machine shop in nashik. the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and maximum uptime of all machinery and equipment, including advanced cnc machines, while strictly adhering to safety, quality, and cost-efficiency standards. this role involves strong technical leadership, team management, and strategic planning.

key responsibilities:

maintenance planning & execution:

develop, plan, schedule, and execute comprehensive preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs for all machine shop machinery and equipment. this includes cnc machines (vmc, hmc, lathes, etc.), conventional machines, grinding machines, spm (special purpose machines), presses, welding equipment, and related utility systems.

prepare detailed maintenance schedules, checklists, and standard operating procedures (sops).

allocate maintenance tasks effectively to technicians and supervisors, ensuring timely completion of work orders.

implement and utilize a computerized maintenance management system (cmms) for tracking and managing maintenance activities.

troubleshooting & problem solving:

lead the team in diagnosing and rectifying complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system faults in machinery.

perform in-depth root cause analysis (rca) for recurrent equipment failures and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (capa) to prevent reoccurrence.

minimize equipment downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness (oee) and efficiency.

team leadership & development:

supervise, train, and mentor a team of maintenance technicians and junior engineers.

monitor team performance, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance appraisals.

foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork within the maintenance department.

identify skill gaps and arrange for relevant training programs for the team.

spare parts & inventory management:

manage and optimize the inventory of critical spare parts for machine shop machinery, ensuring optimal stock levels to prevent production delays.

coordinate efficiently with the procurement department for the timely purchase of spare parts, consumables, and tools.

identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with reliable vendors and service providers for specialized parts and maintenance services.

safety, health & environment (she) & compliance:

ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in strict compliance with company safety policies, industry best practices, and local regulatory requirements (., factories act, electrical safety norms).

promote a safe working environment and conduct regular safety audits, hazard identification, and risk assessments.

ensure proper lockout/tagout (loto) procedures and other safety protocols are strictly followed during maintenance operations.

documentation & reporting:

maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, equipment history, breakdown incidents, parts consumption, and service reports.

prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports, highlighting key performance indicators (kpis) such as mttr (mean time to repair), mtbf (mean time between failures), equipment uptime, and maintenance costs.

continuous improvement initiatives:

identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and energy efficiency within maintenance operations.

drive the implementation of total productive maintenance (tpm), reliability-centered maintenance (rcm), and lean manufacturing principles.

suggest and evaluate upgrades or modifications to existing equipment to enhance performance, extend lifespan, or reduce operational costs.

inter-departmental coordination:

liaise closely with the production, quality assurance, and engineering departments to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to production schedules.

coordinate with external original equipment manufacturers (oems) or specialized service providers for complex repairs, warranty claims, and annual maintenance contracts (amcs).
