role overview
the dialysis technician is responsible for operating and maintaining dialysis equipment, providing patient care during hemodialysis sessions, and ensuring adherence to hospital protocols for safety and infection control. the role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and collaboration with the clinical team for optimal patient outcomes.
key responsibilities
• prepare and operate dialysis machines, monitors, and associated equipment for patient sessions.
• monitor patients during dialysis for vital signs, reactions, and overall clinical status.
• assist nephrologists and nurses in patient care, including setting up vascular access, connecting and disconnecting lines, and administering prescribed treatments.
• maintain strict adherence to infection control, hygiene, and safety protocols.
• perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of dialysis equipment.
• document patient treatment details, observations, and machine logs accurately in hospital records.
• educate patients on dialysis procedures, diet, fluid restrictions, and post-treatment care.
• ensure inventory management of dialysis consumables and notify supervisors for replenishment.
• participate in quality assurance programs, safety drills, and equipment audits.
• respond to dialysis-related emergencies promptly and escalate to senior staff as required.
