process planning: analyze engineering designs and blueprints to determine the most effective and efficient manufacturing methods. they select appropriate tools, fixtures, and cutting parameters.

simulation and verification: use cam software to simulate the machining process before it goes to the production floor. this helps in identifying potential collisions, errors, or inefficiencies, saving both time and material.

troubleshooting: work with machine operators to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the manufacturing process, such as tool breakage, part inaccuracy, or machine errors.

documentation: maintain detailed records of all programs, tool libraries, and manufacturing processes. they create setup sheets and instruction manuals for machine operators.

collaboration: work closely with design engineers to provide feedback on product design for manufacturability (dfm) and with production teams to improve efficiency.
