Engineer and Ship Surveyor cum Deputy Director General (Tech jobs in Delhi - Union Public Service Commission

Online applications are invited for the post of Engineer and Ship Surveyor cum Deputy Director General (Technical) in Union Public Service Commission.

Qualification : Certificate of competency of marine engineer officer class-I (Steam or Motor or Combined Steam and Motor) as specified in section 78 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (44 of 1958) or equivalent as specified in section 86 of the said Act and five year’s service at sea of which one year service as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer. NOTE-1: Qualification are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission, for reasons to be recorded in writing, in the case of candidates otherwise well qualified. NOTE-II: The qualification(s) regarding experience is/are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission, for, reasons to be recorded in writing in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, if any stage of selection, the Union Public Service Commission is of the opinion that sufficient number of candidates from these Communities possessing the requisite experience are not likely to be available to fill up the vacancies reserved for them.

Desirable : One year experience in survey and inspection of merchant ship and one year experience in survey, inspection and examination of merchant ship.

Duties : Works in connection with Survey and inspection of Merchant Ships as per Merchant Shipping Act, carrying out ISM audits, Implementation of International safety Management(ISM) Code, Assessment and conduct of examinations for Marine Engineers, Scrutiny for contravention of MARPOL regulation by Indian vessel abroad, Technical investigation into Ships Casualties and Oil Pollution incidents, Supervision of construction and repairs of vessels carried out by MMD Surveyors, preparation of report with respect to MARPOL 73/78/ for IMO, Implementation of STCW 1995 Rules and quality system procedures, Scrutiny of machinery, equipment and plans of ships and that of lifeboat davits and winches, Preparation for Flag State Model Audit, Matter connected with Indian Standard Institutions (Bureau of Indian Standards), Scrutiny for casualty/analysis (mainly fire & explosion),Water Management programme, Scrutiny of Fire Control Plans of Ships, Scrutiny of Oil Discharge Monitor and P & A Manuals, performance of other statutory duties under M.S. Act, 1958.

Application Fee : (a) Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty five) only either by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of the SBI or by using visa/master credit/debit card. (b) No fee for SC/ST/PH/Women candidates of any community. No fee exemption is available to OBC male candidates and they are required to pay the full prescribed fee.
